তাঁর সম্প্রদায়ের অহংকারী নেতারা বলল, ‘হে শু'আইব! আমরা অবশ্যই তোমাকে ও তোমার সাথে যারা ঈমান এনেছে তাদেরকে আমাদের জনপদ থেকে বের করে দেব অথবা তোমাদেরকে আমাদের ধর্মাদর্শে ফিরে আসতে হবে।’ তিনি বললেন, ‘যদিও আমরা সেটাকে ঘৃণা করি তবুও?’
