Imām Ibn al-Jawzī (d. 597/1201) summarized the scholars' opinions in his book "Zād al-Masīr" as follows:

1. It is to believe in the Prophet (ﷺ). This is the opinion of those who said they are Jews.
2. It is to act consistently with their claimed belief. This is the opinion of those who said they are hypocrites.

What is the belief (*īmān*) that they are being called to have in this verse?

The speakers have been identified as:

1. The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) in general. [Ibn ʿAbbās]
