Imām Ibn al-Jawzī (d. 597/1201) summarized the scholars' opinions in his book "Zād al-Masīr" as follows:

1. Its roads. [Al-ʿAwfī from Ibn ʿAbbās; Mujāhid]
2. Its mountains. [Ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from Ibn ʿAbbās; Qatādah]\
Al-Zajjāj preferred this interpretation, stating: "The meaning is that He made travel through the earth easy for you; since it is possible even to traverse its mountains, that shows the extent of facilitation."
3. Its sides. [Muqātil, al-Farrāʾ, Abū ʿUbaydah]\
Ibn Qutaybah preferred this interpretation, stating: "A man’s *mankibs* are his two sides."
