Tafsir: Al-Hashr 59:6

وما افاء الله على رسوله منهم فما اوجفتم عليه من خيل ولا ركاب ولاكن الله يسلط رسله على من يشاء والله على كل شيء قدير ٦

وَمَآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَوْجَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْلٍۢ وَلَا رِكَابٍۢ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ ٦

وَمَآ

أَفَآءَ

ٱللَّهُ

عَلَىٰ

رَسُولِهِۦ

مِنۡهُمۡ

فَمَآ

أَوۡجَفۡتُمۡ

عَلَيۡهِ

مِنۡ

خَيۡلٖ

وَلَا

رِكَابٖ

وَلَٰكِنَّ

ٱللَّهَ

يُسَلِّطُ

رُسُلَهُۥ

عَلَىٰ

مَن

يَشَآءُۚ

وَٱللَّهُ

عَلَىٰ

كُلِّ

شَيۡءٖ

قَدِيرٞ

٦

As for the gains Allah has turned over to His Messenger from them—you did not ˹even˺ spur on any horse or camel for such gains. But Allah gives authority to His messengers over whoever He wills. For Allah is Most Capable of everything.

Hadith

[ 1] fai' is a term for the properties left over by the non-Muslims and possessed by a Muslim state without fighting. As opposed to this, ghanimah (booty) is a property taken over by fighting. The properties of Bani Nadir were taken over without fighting, hence the word fai'. That is why we did not translate fai' as 'booty'. (Muhammad Taqi Usmani)
