كيف تكفرون بالله وكنتم امواتا فاحياكم ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكم ثم اليه ترجعون ٢٨

كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَٰتًۭا فَأَحْيَـٰكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ٢٨

كَيۡفَ

تَكۡفُرُونَ

بِٱللَّهِ

وَكُنتُمۡ

أَمۡوَٰتٗا

فَأَحۡيَٰكُمۡۖ

ثُمَّ

يُمِيتُكُمۡ

ثُمَّ

يُحۡيِيكُمۡ

ثُمَّ

إِلَيۡهِ

تُرۡجَعُونَ

٢٨

How can you deny Allah? You were lifeless and He gave you life, then He will cause you to die and again bring you to life, and then to Him you will ˹all˺ be returned.

ilayhi turjaʿūna

“to Him you will be brought back”

This is a form IV verb in the passive voice.

تَرْجِعُونَ

ilayhi tarjiʿūna

“to Him you will return”

This is a form I verb in the active voice.

Explicación

These are two ways of making the same point; the first reading emphasises people’s lack of choice and agency in the matter [Abu Hayyan].

He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
