Hoe slecht is het, want zij hebben zichzelf verkocht, dat zij ongelovig zijn in wat Allah geopenbaard heeft, uit afgunst dat Allah Zijn gunst neerzendt tot wie Hij wil van Zijn dienaren. Zij hebben zo dus de toorn over zichzelf afgeroepen. En voor de ongelovigen is er een vernederende bestraffing.

These readings represent two linguistic options to make the act of “coming down” (nuzūl) transitive, i.e. forms II and IV, respectively. In some contexts, the first is more indicative of gradual revelation.
