Al-Anfal 8:44 واذ يريكموهم اذ التقيتم في اعينكم قليلا ويقللكم في اعينهم ليقضي الله امرا كان مفعولا والى الله ترجع الامور ٤٤
وَإِذۡ
يُرِيكُمُوهُمۡ
إِذِ
ٱلۡتَقَيۡتُمۡ
فِيٓ
أَعۡيُنِكُمۡ
قَلِيلٗا
وَيُقَلِّلُكُمۡ
فِيٓ
أَعۡيُنِهِمۡ
لِيَقۡضِيَ
ٱللَّهُ
أَمۡرٗا
كَانَ
مَفۡعُولٗاۗ
وَإِلَى
ٱللَّهِ
تُرۡجَعُ
ٱلۡأُمُورُ
٤٤
Zur Zeit eures Treffens geschah es, daß Er sie in euren Augen als zahlenmäßig gering erscheinen ließ und euch in ihren Augen als zahlenmäßig gering erscheinen ließ, auf daß Allah die Sache herbeiführte, die geschehen sollte. Und zu Allah werden alle Angelegenheiten zurückgebracht.

Ibn Kathir (Abridged)
Allah made each Group look few in the Eye of the Other
Mujahid said, "In a dream, Allah showed the Prophet the enemy as few. The Prophet conveyed this news to his Companions and their resolve strengthened." Similar was said by Ibn Ishaq and several others. Allah said,
