Al-Mu'minun 23:80 وهو الذي يحيي ويميت وله اختلاف الليل والنهار افلا تعقلون ٨٠
وَهُوَ
ٱلَّذِي
يُحۡيِۦ
وَيُمِيتُ
وَلَهُ
ٱخۡتِلَٰفُ
ٱلَّيۡلِ
وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ
أَفَلَا
تَعۡقِلُونَ
٨٠
Und Er ist es, Der leben und sterben läßt, und in Seinen Händen ruht der Wechsel von Nacht und Tag. Wollt ihr es denn nicht begreifen?

Ibn Kathir (Abridged)
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَـهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ
(And indeed We seized them with punishment,) means, `We tried and tested them with difficulties and calamities.' His saying:
فَمَا اسْتَكَانُواْ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
(but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke with submission to Hi
