"Am I Sincere?": The Importance of Doing Everything for the Sake of Allah
Day 4: Finding Peace in Allah’s Pleasure, Not People’s Praise
Quran Verses
Lesson & Reflection
The constant desire to be seen, validated, or praised by people can leave you feeling drained and unsure of your worth. The Quran, however, offers a powerful shift: being seen by Allah is enough. It’s not just consolation; it’s clarity. It frees us from feeling insecure, from constantly being anxious about the scrutiny and opinions of others about us, and it assures us that Allah is the One who will reward us. This shift in mindset creates within us an ultimate sense of peace and security.
In Surah Fussilat (41:53), Allah reminds us that He is the ultimate witness. That means every effort we make, every act of self-restraint, every small deed done in secret, and every moment of weakness, He sees it all. And He never overlooks a heart that turns toward Him with sincerity.
Surah Al-Isra (17:96) emphasizes the sufficiency of Allah’s gaze and His witness. When others misunderstand you, ignore you, or fail to appreciate you, Allah doesn’t. Allah knows and sees what others cannot comprehend, rewards more generously, and knows what you endure that no one else can even begin to imagine.
When you live for Allah’s pleasure, the noise quiets. You’re no longer chasing moments of approval; you’re walking steadily under the loving watch of your Creator. This is where peace begins: knowing that your worth doesn’t fluctuate with people's opinions. It rests securely with Allah.
Hadith
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but He looks at your hearts and deeds.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2564)
Practical Activity
- Reflect and Redirect: Midway through your day, take a moment to ask: “Why am I doing what I’m doing right now?” If your intention has drifted, gently redirect it to please Allah.
- Remind Yourself: “Allah Sees Me”
Whenever you feel overlooked, misunderstood, or underappreciated, pause and silently say: “Hasbiyallahu. Allah sees me. That is enough.” - Journal a Moment You Felt Invisible. Then Reframe It
Write down a time you felt unseen or unacknowledged. Then under it, write what Allah may have seen in that moment: your patience, your sacrifice, your intention.
Dua
Allāhummaj`al sarīratī khairan min `alāniyatī waj`al `alāniyatī ṣāliha. Allāhumma innī as’aluka min ṣālihi mā tu’tin-nāsa minal-māli wal-ahli wal waladi, ghairaḍ-ḍāli wa lal-muḍil.
“O Allah, make my secret better than my apparent condition, and make my apparent condition righteous. O Allah, I ask You for the good of what You give to the people, of wealth, wives, and children, not to be misguided, nor misguiding.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3586)
Reflection Question
What would change in my life if I truly believed that Allah’s pleasure is enough, even when no one else notices?
If no one noticed or appreciated what I did, would I still do it?
