Duas of the Angels in the Quran
Day 2: The Angels’ Dua for Believers and Their Families
Quran Verses
Lesson & Reflection
Out of His mercy, Allah made Paradise a place of perfect companionship and joy, not loneliness, as human beings are created to find comfort in righteous company. The angels themselves pray for believers to enter Jannah with their families, righteous parents, spouses, and children. This is a reminder that our faith, much like our existence, is not lived in isolation; our duas, our deeds, and our patience ripple across generations.
The angels’ supplication in Quran 40:8 shows us the value of legacy: our belief benefits not only us but our loved ones, just as their righteousness benefits us. In Jannah, believers are reunited, purified, and elevated together. Even if believing family members are on different levels, Allah, out of His grace, raises the status of some so that families can be united, as found in the following verse: “As for those who believe and whose descendants follow them in faith, We will elevate their descendants to their rank, never discounting anything ˹of the reward˺ of their deeds. Every person will reap only what they sowed.” (Quran 52:21).
Quran 42:5 widens this scope even more. The angels glorify Allah and seek forgiveness for those on earth, especially the believers, reminding us of our shared origin from Adam (‘alayhi as-salam) and reminding us of the bonds that unite us all. That we are all descendants of our father, Adam (‘alayhi as-salam). At all times, the angels are among those who seek forgiveness for people on earth, as Allah tells us in the Quran.
And in Quran 13:24, the angels enter upon the believers in Paradise, greeting them with peace and congratulations. Imagine that moment: stepping into eternal bliss with your loved ones and being met by angels who say, “Peace be upon you for your patience.” Their words affirm that the struggles you endured together in the journey of faith, reminding each other and uplifting each other, were all worth it, and that Jannah is not just yours; it’s shared with those you love.
Takeaway: You are not walking toward Jannah alone. The angels are praying for you, your family, and your community, and they will greet the believers at the gates of Paradise with peace.
Hadith
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,
“When a servant of Allah prays for his brother in his absence, the angels say: ‘Ameen, and may you have the same.’”
(Sahih Muslim 2732)
This hadith reflects the angelic nature of praying not just for ourselves but for others, including our families.
Practical Activity
Today, take a moment to make dua for your family, including your parents, siblings, children, and even future descendants. Say:
رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ
My Lord! Make me and those ˹believers˺ of my descendants keep up prayer. Our Lord! Accept my prayers. (Quran 14:40)
How it helps:
- You mirror the angels’ prayer in Quran 40:8.
- You increase love, mercy, and barakah within your family ties.
- You build a legacy of dua that continues to benefit across generations.
Dua (from the Quran)
Rabbanā wa adkhilhum jannāti ʿadnin allati waʿadtahum waman ṣalaḥa min ābā’ihim wa-azwājihim wa-dhurriyyātihim, innaka anta al-ʿazīzu al-ḥakīm
“Our Lord! Admit them into the Gardens of Eternity which You have promised them, along with the righteous among their parents, spouses, and descendants. You ˹alone˺ are truly the Almighty, All-Wise.” (Quran 40:8)
Reflection Question
How would my relationships change if I regularly prayed for my family’s forgiveness and reunion in Paradise, just as the angels do?
