Duas of the Angels in the Quran

Day 1: The Angels’ Dua for Believers’ Forgiveness

Quran Verses

Lesson & Reflection

These verses are among the most gentle in the Quran. They describe the angels who carry the Throne of Allah, surrounded by other angels, continuously glorifying Him. However, notice that their worship is not self-focused. Along with Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah, they turn their attention to us, the believers on earth, asking Allah to forgive us, admit us into Paradise, and protect us from Hellfire.

Reflect on this scene: the mightiest angels near the Throne are continually making dua for the believers. Not because you asked, not because you earned it, but simply because Allah commanded them and honored them with the duty of seeking forgiveness for the believers. This is a powerful reminder of Allah’s love and mercy, which He extends through His creation. Allah’s mercy is so vast that He created angels whose duty is to seek forgiveness on behalf of His believing servants, subhanAllah!

The dua of the angels in these verses teaches us three things. First, forgiveness is the foundation. Before Jannah, before reward, we need Allah’s mercy to cover our sins. Second, salvation is not just individual; the angels ask Allah to admit believers along with their families, showing us the communal and all-encompassing mercy of Allah. Third, true triumph is not in worldly success but in being protected from Hell and admitted into eternal gardens.

We live in a time when many feel unseen, unknown, or uncared for. But here, Allah is revealing that the most honored beings in the heavens are already praying for you, noticing you, acknowledging you, caring for you. Even in your struggles, you are remembered before Allah’s Throne.

Takeaway: Whenever you feel isolated or unworthy, remember: the angels are making dua for you right now. Believers are never forgotten before Allah, as the angels constantly seek forgiveness on their behalf. Let this strengthen you in situations where you find yourself feeling anxious or burdened by the trials of life.

Hadith

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,
“Allah has angels who roam the roads seeking out the people of remembrance of Allah. When they find people remembering Allah, they call to one another: ‘Come to what you are looking for!’ Then they encircle them with their wings up to the sky of the world…”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 6408; Sahih Muslim 2689)

This shows that the angels’ prayers are not limited to the Hereafter; they are constantly surrounding gatherings of dhikr (remembrance of Allah), as mentioned in authentic hadith.

Practical Activity

Today, take a few moments to deliberately place yourself among the people the angels pray for. Find a quiet moment and repeat:

“Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh” (I seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to Him) as many times as you can.

This practice:

  • Connects you to the angelic dua of Quran 40:7.
  • Opens your heart to Allah’s forgiveness.
  • Reminds you that even as you seek forgiveness, the angels are seeking it for you too.

Dua (from the Quran)

Rabbanā wasiʿta kulla shay’in raḥmatan wa ʿilman faghfir lilladhīna tābū wattabaʿū sabīlaka wa qihim ʿadhābal-jaḥīm.

“Our Lord! You encompass everything in ˹Your˺ mercy and knowledge. So forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and protect them from the torment of the Hellfire.” (Quran 40:7)

Reflection Question

How does it change your view of yourself to know that the angels closest to Allah’s throne are already praying for your forgiveness and eternal salvation?
