Five Lenses to Reflect on the Quran
Day 17: The Lens of General Lessons (Part 2)
The idea of extracting general lessons from the Quran is to take statements out of their original context and apply them to other contexts where they also fit. To do so successfully, you do need to understand the original context.
“What are Quranic Maxims?”
As we mentioned before, there are often statements made in the Quran which are ready-made general wisdom, and sometimes these even have the feel of sayings and proverbs found in every culture and tradition, except that these are received from the Lord of the Worlds.
Scholars have sometimes called these “qawa’id” قواعد قرآنية – in English I’ve termed them “Quranic Maxims”. We have previously run a series on this at QuranReflect.
So I invite you to have a look through the series, starting with this introduction: quranreflect.com/posts/6867
