In Surah al-Ma’idah (5:67), Allah commands His Messenger (peace be upon him) to convey all that has been revealed to him, with complete trust in divine protection and support. It is a timeless directive to uphold truth without fear, to speak with clarity, and to place ultimate confidence in Allah’s safeguarding care.

This verse reveals the secret of prophetic courage: trust in Allah’s protection while fulfilling the duty Allah has given. The Prophet’s role was not to control people’s reactions, but to deliver the message faithfully, with clarity and sincerity.

Many Muslims in the West face moments of hesitation when wearing hijab, growing a beard, or even saying their name out loud. Not to mention, praying in public can feel daunting. In such moments, da'wah begins not with speeches but with steadfast identity. Living Islam with humility and confidence is itself a form of da'wah.

The Prophet’s da'wah was not confrontational but compassionate. When he was mocked, he did not retaliate. When asked harsh questions, he replied gently. When people rejected him, he still prayed for their guidance. His mission was not to win arguments but to open hearts.

Allah honors this in Surah Fussilat (41:33): “Who is better in speech than one who calls to Allah, does righteous deeds, and says, ‘Indeed, I am of the Muslims.’”* Notice the sequence: calling to Allah must be matched by righteous character and calm affirmation of one’s faith. The best da'wah is truth delivered with mercy, conviction balanced with courtesy.

Every believer carries this prophetic legacy. When faced with Islamophobia, remember: our goal is not to be accepted by all but to represent the truth with excellence. The Prophet taught that mercy melts hatred, and patience turns hostility into respect.

To convey truth with dignity – that is prophetic da'wah.

Hadith

“Make things easy and do not make them difficult. Give glad tidings and do not drive people away.”

Practical Activity

Today, make a conscious effort to express your Muslim identity with calm confidence. Whether through prayer at work, greeting with “Assalamu alaikum,” or mentioning faith naturally in conversation, do so with warmth and sincerity.

If someone reacts with curiosity or tension, respond with gentleness and clarity, just as the Prophet did.

Dua

قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي وَاذْكُرْ بِالْهُدَى هِدَايَتَكَ الطَّرِيقَ وَالسَّدَادِ سَدَادَ السَّهْمِ

Qulillāhumma ihdinī wa saddidnī, wa udhkur bil-hudā hidāyatakal-ṭarīq, was-sadād sadādas-sahm.

Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me:

“Say: O Allah, guide me and grant me soundness (in speech and action)
When you speak of guidance, remember that it means being rightly directed along the path.
And when you speak of soundness, remember that it means the precision and firmness of a straight-flying arrow.”

(Sahih Muslim, 2725)

When you think about the Prophet’s da'wah, what qualities of his approach would you like to embody in your own response to Islamophobia?
