Lesson & Reflection
After reassuring His Messenger (peace be upon him) that he had not been abandoned, Allah follows that reassurance with a promise:
“And the next life is certainly far better for you than this one.”
These words direct the Prophet (peace be upon him) toward the ultimate reality of the Hereafter. Whatever difficulties, opposition, or hardship he experienced in this life would never compare to the rewards Allah had prepared for him.
The verse carries certainty. Allah does not present this as a possibility or hope. It is a promise. What awaits the Prophet (peace be upon him) with his Lord is better than everything he has experienced in this worldly life.
Scholars also mention that Allah's support for the Prophet (peace be upon him) continued throughout his mission. Although he faced trials and hardships, Allah granted him increasing guidance, victory, and honor as his mission progressed.
The second promise is equally powerful:
“And surely your Lord will give so much to you that you will be pleased.”
Allah does not specify the gift. This open-ended promise encompasses every blessing Allah granted His Messenger (peace be upon him), including revelation, victory, honor, intercession, and the immense rewards of Paradise.
The wording itself teaches us something profound about Allah's generosity. Allah promises not merely to give, but to give until His Messenger (peace be upon him) is pleased.
Although these promises were given specifically to the Prophet (peace be upon him), the Qur'an repeatedly teaches that the rewards Allah has prepared for the righteous are greater than the temporary losses, disappointments, and hardships of this world.
One of the challenges of faith is remembering that our perspective is limited. We often focus on what we have not received, what has been delayed, or what has been taken away. The Quran repeatedly redirects our attention toward the greater reality of the Hereafter and the lasting rewards prepared by Allah.
The believer learns to measure success not merely by present circumstances, but by the hope of meeting Allah and receiving His reward.
Takeaway:
The believer places hope in Allah's generosity and trusts that His reward is greater than anything this world can offer. What Allah has prepared for the righteous far exceeds the temporary hardships and disappointments of this life.
Hadith
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“No one who enters Paradise will wish to return to the world, even if he were given everything on earth, except the martyr. He would wish to return and be killed ten times because of the honor he sees.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 2817)
This hadith illustrates the greatness of the rewards of Paradise and the immense blessings Allah has prepared for His righteous servants.
Practical Activity
Think about one difficulty you are facing right now.
Then remind yourself of Allah’s promise: 'But what Allah has is better and more lasting...' (Quran 42:36)
Ask Allah: “O Allah, help me trust Your wisdom and remain patient with Your decree.”
