Lesson & Reflection

After swearing by the brightness of morning and the stillness of night, Allah addresses the concern that had arisen during the pause in revelation:

“Your Lord has not abandoned you, nor has He become hateful of you.”

These words were revealed to comfort the Prophet (peace be upon him) after a period in which no new revelation had come. During that time, the disbelievers mocked him and claimed that his Lord had abandoned him. Allah responded directly to their accusations.

The verse begins with a deeply personal expression:

“Your Lord...”

Rather than using a more general description, Allah reminds His Messenger (peace be upon him) of the special care, guidance, and blessings He had always provided. The One who chose him for prophethood had not abandoned him, nor had the temporary pause in revelation changed Allah's favor toward him.

This verse teaches an important lesson about how believers understand hardship. The life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) demonstrates that Allah's favor is not measured by a life free from difficulty. The most beloved of Allah's creation experienced grief, hardship, opposition, and periods of waiting.

Allah did not merely deny the accusation ("Your Lord has not abandoned you"), but He also denied its underlying assumption ("nor has He become displeased"). The verse removes both fears at once: abandonment and rejection. That dual reassurance is one of the rhetorical beauties of Surah Ad-Duha.

One of the greatest mistakes a person can make is to judge Allah's care solely by their current circumstances. When life becomes difficult, Shaytan often whispers that blessings have disappeared or that Allah no longer cares. This verse teaches the opposite.

A delay in receiving what you hope for is not necessarily a sign of rejection. Allah may be testing His servant, expiating sins, increasing reward, teaching beneficial lessons, or protecting them from harms they cannot yet see. The believer learns to trust Allah's wisdom even when the reasons remain hidden.

Although these words were revealed specifically to the Prophet (peace be upon him), they provide comfort and guidance for every believer. They remind us that temporary hardship should not be confused with abandonment, and that Allah's wisdom continues even when we cannot yet see its outcome. 

The verse invites believers to look beyond the present moment and remember that Allah's care extends far beyond what is immediately visible.

Takeaway:

The same Lord who comforted His Prophet (peace be upon him) teaches believers through these verses not to judge His care by their immediate circumstances. Trust in Allah grows when we remember that His wisdom continues even during times of waiting and difficulty.

Hadith

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said that Allah says:

“I am as My servant thinks of Me. I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me to himself, I remember him to Myself. If he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a gathering better than it. If he draws near to Me a handspan, I draw near to him an arm's length. If he comes to Me walking, I come to him running.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 7405)

Practical Activity

When you feel uncertain or discouraged today, pause and repeat:

“Allah is Most Merciful and Most Wise.”

Then reflect on a difficulty from your past in which you later recognized a benefit, lesson, or blessing, or remember that some wisdoms may only become clear in the Hereafter.

Dua

اللّهُـمَّ رَحْمَتَـكَ أَرْجـو فَلا تَكِلـني إِلى نَفْـسي طَـرْفَةَ عَـيْن وَأَصْلِـحْ لي شَأْنـي كُلَّـه لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْـت

Allāhumma raḥmataka arjū falā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata ʿayn wa aṣliḥ lī sha'nī kullah lā ilāha illā ant.

O Allah, I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye. Rectify all of my affairs. There is none worthy of worship except You.
