Surah Al-Waqi‘ah: When the Inevitable Event Occurs
Day 6: The Power of the Word
Theme: The majesty of revelation and the sanctity of the Quran
Quran Verses
Lesson & Reflection
After directing our attention to the signs of Allah in creation, Surah Al-Waqi'ah now turns to the greatest source of guidance: the Quran itself.
Allah begins with a remarkable oath: “So I do swear by the positions of the stars.”
He then immediately tells us that this is a tremendous oath. The purpose of the oath is to emphasize the greatness of what follows: the Quran, the noble speech of Allah.
Allah describes it as a noble Quran contained within a well-preserved record. The Quran is not the product of human thought, culture, or imagination. It is revelation sent by the Lord of all worlds. Its source is divine, and its guidance remains true and unchanged.
Many scholars explained that the part, “touched by none except the purified,” refers to the purified angels who have access to the preserved record, highlighting the honor and protection of Allah's revelation. These verses remind us of the lofty status of the Quran and the care with which Allah has preserved His revelation.
The Quran is a mercy, guidance, and reminder for humanity. Through it, Allah teaches people about faith, worship, character, the Hereafter, and the path that leads to His pleasure. Every generation that turns to the Quran finds guidance because its message comes from the One who knows His creation completely.
The verses then conclude with a warning: “How can you then take this message lightly?”
This question invites every believer to examine their relationship with the Quran. Do we approach it with attention and reverence? Do we seek guidance from it? Do we allow it to shape our beliefs, actions, and character?
Just as Allah placed signs throughout creation, He revealed the Quran as a sign and guidance for those who seek the truth. The believer benefits most when he approaches the Quran with humility, sincerity, and a desire to act upon what he learns.
Takeaway:
The Quran is the speech of Allah and one of His greatest blessings. Every verse contains guidance, wisdom, and reminders for those who approach it with sincerity and reflection.
Hadith
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah will receive a good deed, and each good deed is multiplied by ten. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter. Rather, Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.”
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi 2910)
Practical Activity
Before reading or listening to the Quran today, pause briefly and remind yourself: “This is the speech of Allah, revealed as guidance for His servants.”
Then read or listen to at least one verse slowly and carefully, reflecting on what Allah is teaching through it.
How it helps:
Increases reverence for the Quran.
Encourages thoughtful recitation.
Strengthens the connection between learning and action.
Dua
اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي وَزِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Allāhumma infaʿnī bimā ʿallamtanī wa ʿallimnī mā yanfaʿunī wa zidnī ʿilmā.
O Allah, benefit me through what You have taught me, teach me what will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge.
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi 3599)
