Ibn Kathir (Abridged)

Allah tells us that the longer the son of Adam lives, the more he becomes weak after being strong, and incapable after being able and active

This is like the Ayah:

اللَّهُ الَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ مِّن ضَعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ ضَعْفٍ قُوَّةٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضَعْفاً وَشَيْبَةً يَخْلُقُ

Chapter 36, Page 444, Juz 23

68. And he whom We grant long life - We reverse him in creation (weakness after strength). Will they not then understand? 69. And We have not taught him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) poetry, nor is it suitable for him. This is only a Reminder and a plain Qur’ân. 70. That he or it (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم or the Qur’ân) may give warning to him who is living (a healthy minded - the believer), and that Word (charge) may be justified against the disbelievers (dead, as they reject the warnings). 71. Do they not see that We have created for them of what Our Hands have created the cattle, so that they are their owners. 72. And We have subdued them unto them so that some of them they have for riding and some they eat. 73. And they have (other) benefits from them, and they get (milk) to drink. Will they not then be grateful? 74. And they have taken besides Allâh âlihah (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so-called gods). 75. They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning). 76. So let not their speech, then, grieve you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). Verily, We know what they conceal and what they reveal.
